The Wednesday group was the only one to enjoy all three scheduled sessions, so their efforts produced much of the preliminary data. These enthusiastic builders designed a wide variety of vehicles, many of which achieved runs of 500 cm or more. We had articulated frame cars, cars with clever weighting systems that allowed fine-tuning, cars with stabilizing tail fins, cars which distributed the load evenly over each wheel, and cars with fifth wheel guides. Alas, there are no pictures of these vehicles; when teams saw other devices reaching the 600 cm mark on the first trial run they dashed off to make improvements to their own cars without waiting for the second trial or photographic documentation of their efforts!
